My music career started in Jutland, Denmark. My family and I had moved to a fisherman’s town called Esbjerg, because my dad Eric had gotten a job there.

When I started school there, I felt different and I had never been ashamed of my skin color before.

One day there was a bunch of kids who started yelling at me: “Go home to Africa, where you came from you N*****” and “Crawl up in the tree and and eat your banana, you monkey!”.

I felt so embarrassed and became very sad. But, I was determined to use it as fuel. So, I decided that I was going to make something of my life and show them!

It all began on a Saturday night in the living room. My mum and I watched Prince live in concert from Syracuse, New York.

When Prince came on stage, he looked like an angel! I could relate to him, because he was mixed like me. And it was in that moment, I decided that I was going to be just like him.  :-)

The next day, I started rehearsing piano and wrote my first song “Freedom”. And shortly after that I joined the school band called “Audiens”. I felt that I was “finally home” and that this was the beginning of something exiting…

No matter what you go through in life, don’t let ANYBODY tell you, you’re not good enough! Be proud of who you are :-)

I’ve decided that I want to start blogging on a regular basis.

It’s been something that I wanted to do for a long time, but to be really honest, I’m not comfortable with the “new world” where we have to share EVERYTHING we do…… what cereal we had for breakfast, which cafe we’re sitting at etc………it’s a little too “big brother” for me.

So, I’ve been struggling with this for a while, but decided that if I don’t share my VOICE with the world, I would drown into nothingness……..haha…….:-)

So, I will try to find a happy medium, where you get to know me, but where I still keep some things private.

I really hope you’ll take this journey with me and also let me get to know YOU!

So, here we go :-)

My name is ZINDY.

I’m Danish/American and I was born and raised in Denmark by my mother, Vivi-Ann and my step dad Eric. I have a younger brother by the name of Marc, who’s an amazing rapper :-)

Growing up in Denmark was challenging at times, because I got teased for being mixed, but it gave me the drive and motivation to pursue music :-)

I started performing in the school band and after that started my own band “SmallStars”. I wrote my own music and wanted to be like Prince!

In 1992 I was discovered on Danish National Tv, by the amazing Soulshock, who is a BRILLIANT producer, as well as an amazing person. He saw my talent and signed me to a multiple record deal on EMI. I joined the band “Cut ‘n’ Move” and was famous overnight!

It was SO weird going from being on welfare “trying to make it” to having screaming and crying fans. But, I grew into it and it was the best learning process I could have ever wished for!

After many years in the band, I went solo and did my solo records, which was also very successful and I then began my other love, which is acting. I started doing plays and ended up getting the lead as the first african american “Sally Bowles” in Cabaret. I loved playing her.

In 2002 I moved to New York City and live there now. This is the love of my life and my SOULMATE and I love it sooooooo much :-)

I still go to Denmark to visit my lovely family and friends and it’s amazing!

I took a long break from music, because I was in an emotional and physical abusive relationship and I’ve spend some time rehabilitating from that. I wrote a song about it called “Fight or Flight” which is out now. I want to inspire other people to get out of such a bad situation.

I’m slowly finding my groove again and have started dating…….haha…….I will share some stories on this as well.

I love YOU who have stood by me from the beginning and have grown up with my music and all the new one’s who are joining. You are my ZINDERELLAS. If I didn’t have YOU, I don’t know if I would have ever returned to singing! So, Thank you!

Let’s see where this blog goes and feel free to introduce yourself :-)
